TO OBTAIN A GEORGIA RESIDENTIAL BUILDER LICENSE:
1) Apply to the state for a license. Click here for more information on how to apply for a license with the State licensing department. There will be a question about general liability insurance. Just answer no at this time. The question about third-party information should also be answered with no. If you prefer American Contractors Exam Service to assist in preparing this application, they will help for a fee of $299. This is in addition to the $210 application fee required by the state of Georgia.
2) Enter your email address below and register for the licensing exam prep course being offered on June 29 & 30 in Athens. The Athens Area HBA is partnering with American Contractors Exam Services to offer a two-day class to prepare builders for the state exam. American Contractors Exam Services guarantees that you will pass the Georgia Residential Basic Contractor license exam and the Georgia Business Law exam. You will be highlighting and tabbing information that will help you to reference the information in books that PSI has recommended for the open book test. This includes the building and business and law portions of the exam. American Contractors has been holding Seminars to help contractors pass their exam for over 22 years.
Day 1: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm / Day 2: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
3) Purchase the books for the open book exam. Books are available for purchase through the American Contractors Exam Services Bookstore.

4) Applicants must pass a two-part examination covering the license they are attempting to obtain, business and law. Learn more about the exam here or read the candidate information bulletin here.
